Where do they go?

Well I had to post this after Mahesh's comment. My mom and Dad watch this extremely popular debate programme on Sun TV! This one was held in Mumbai. VISU, the popular Tamil film personality anchors the show. I normally don't watch the show, but my mom forced me to watch it coz she wanted to see if there were some friends, acquaintances and all. It is a programme wherein a gropu of people(20 odd) are given a chance to speak. For the first time in the history of the show a eunuch was given chance to speak. I listened to her with rapt attention and by the end of her speech, I was reduced to tears.
She said that while travelling in the local trains in Mumbai, when they opt for ladies compartment, the policemen harass them and ask them to leave the compartment. When they board the gents compartment they get groped and sexually harrased by the men. She just posed a question, " Where do we go?"..........and nobody seemed to have an answer. She said that they have no means to earn........so begging is the only option! Has society given us an opportunity to earn and live our life with dignity? Nobody again had an answer.

The most saddest thing was and i quote her verbatim," Our family deserted us. Our parents who brought us into this world deserted us, left u high and dry for no fault of us. We have nobody to call our own. Where do we go?" Now that hurt...it really did. Imagine how it wud be for us....family today......gone tomorrow! I dunno........its unimaginable for me......Yet they are living the reality!

Gay Abandon

Hieeeeeeeeee ppl! Hows u? Me didn't update the blog coz was busy!! Neways I watched kal Ho Naa Ho a few days back. Well i did not like the movie much but I loved Saif in the movie. he is such a cutieeeeeeeeeee! Plz do see the movie for him and only him. Even if u don't see u not gonna miss much but a treat for Saif fans. I am still wondering wat the hell was Priety Zinta thinking when she accpeted the movie. I mean she's good but just doesn't fit in in a johar flick! Watever......but the film had its moments haan......Saif and Shah Rukh had a gr8 chemistry going throughout the movie. The kanta ben thingy was so funyyyyyyyyyyyyy .......hahahahha...had a good laugh. in case u wondering what I am talking this servant of Saif mistakes Saif and Shahrukh to be lovers and her reaction is obviously scandalous. Man, the scenes are hilarious.

Which brings me to the topic about Hindi Cinema being more and more open about homosexuality. In Kal Ho Naa Ho, gays weren’t being laughed at……it was more like laughing with them sorta thing! The other day I was flicking through channels and I came across this feature, which was aired, on CNBC. It talked about the recent trend of lots of gay characters in movies, serials essaying pivotal roles. For example in the serial Jassi….the designer is a gay and it is just obvious. And his is a big role. In serials and films targeted at mass audiences gays were either portrayed as some part of a comic track of just being poked fun at. They are now a part of storyline, which is really very good and interesting.

I remember in the first year of our course we were shown some of the projects of sociology of our seniors. Our seniors had done super cool projects on prostitutes, eunuchs, bar girls etc. etc. They were just awesome. I particularly recall the eunuch project. It was amazing. The students had met eunuchs, went to the places they lived, shot it, talked to them, danced with them, sang with them and basically had so much fun. We saw the documentaries and we were amazed. They showed some really fashionable eunuchs, who were really trendy. That was very interesting to watch. When we asked our seniors how was the whole experience, they said that it was an eye opener for them. They said they are the sweetest ones one can ever meet. They live in horrible conditions. Since society shuns them and they have no other means of livelihood, they resort to begging. They might be stray incidents of harassments but in general they are good people. When I was young I was lead to believe that they are bad people, they are scary etc. I guess majority in India have the same notion. But now I try and empathize with them. They live in real shitty conditions.

I remember this funny incident. Once me and my fren were in a rickshaw when the rick stopped at a traffic signal. Suddenly a eunuch came and started demanding money. Initailly we were like, “ we don’t have money.” Then the eunuch said, abhi main gayegi aur phir tum humo paisa dena.” Saying this she started singing. It went something like this…..

it is luvhly weather
we are all together
I am singing in the rain, I am dancing in the rain
It is luvhly weather
Ab chal paisa de idhar.”

We were so amused that we couldn’t stop laighing and we gave her some money. It was so funny when she sang it with a tune…..ehehheheheee!

Lost Case.........

Hmm........Its been election time off late. BJP winning 3-1 against arch rivals congress. Hmmmm.......! Well i have a few observations to make. Politics is my pet peeve, also my love....so guys another political post.

Flashback:
Indian express did a tehelka (Not exactly tehelka, but almost) when it exposed a union minister Mr. DilipSingh Judeo takeing a bribe. Indian express recieved a VCD which had judeo accepting money saying lines like, "Paisa Khuda to nahin par Khuda ki kasam Khuda se kam bhi nahin. (Money isn’t God but, swear on God, it’s no less than God)" Read more here
Wanna watch the video?? Here u go.....

Well.......When i heard about the scam, I was very happy........I was happy that the culprit was finally bought to book. Dilip Singh Judeo hails from Chattisgarh. The scam broke out just before the crucial Chattisgarh elections. Ajit Jogi, the then chief minister, Congree party then was in a huge mess because of various reasons. Also the election commission came heavily on Congress party for using the state owned helicopters for personal use (read campaigning purposes.) BJP camp rejoiced because Ajit Jogi being chargesheeted by the CBI just before the elections coupled with the anti-incumbency factor would have meant a sure shot win for BJP in the elections. But they received setback when Indian Express exposed Judeo taking bribes. I was like poor voters of Chattisgarh.....they gotta have to choose between devil and the deep sea. Jogi v/s Judeo...Sad case.......Then Judeo resigned as a union minister. But i was surprised when after a few days Judeo was one among the star campaigners for BJP. BJP projected Judeo as a martyr….as to how he resigned immediately because he is so honest and all blah......a whole load of bull actually.

Back to the present......The elections happened and the verdict was out. BJP won handsomely in Chattisgarh. I was absolutely puzzled. Have people gone mad........Haven’t they seen the tapes on TV....The man is a crook and they have voted for the same party. I was like what shit! It was ridiculous. I mean how can the public vote for someone fully knowing that the party they voting for has all crooks as ministers. When we ourselves vote such crooks to power, we have no bloody business to blame the mess in the politics. But then i remembered Saeed Naqvi's column which so correctly justifies the whole situation.

"By now, one or two men, their dark bodies glistening in the sun, have appeared outside. Piso Ram, points to a BJP flag on one of the houses. ‘‘We shall vote for phool (flower)’’ says Kaya Ram, standing behind Piso. All they know is ‘‘phool’’ and ‘‘haath’’ (hand), the Congress symbol. Villages have no electricity and water is available only in the nearby stream. Since there is no TV or radio within miles, how will the Judeo story percolate through to these voters?

Like the train in Satyajit Ray’s Pather Panchali, slicing through the serenity of Appu’s village fields, a motorcycle approaches in the distance. In contrast to the bare bodied Gonds, appears Nehrulal Patel, secretary of Anjaar Gram Panchayat, wearing trousers, pullover and dark glasses. Nehrulal and others like him are the vital links in the rural areas so remote that some of the princely rulers defied the state authority upto the late 60s. How the Judeo story plays out here is a matter of speculation

Well as he says when many villages in Chattisgarh don't have proper electricity, low levels of literacy, how will the people come to know about the corrupt officials. The political parties have now become very very shrewd as far as the campaigning game goes.......they know the pulse of the masses and accordingly position themselves likewise and lack of awareness acts as an added blessing to them. Now if Judeo manages to prove himself innocent, HE would be Chattisgarh's next Chief Minister. I am totally disillusioned. This column aptly describes the situation.
Vir Sanghvi rightly points out....
"The polls tell us that the BJP will lose Chhattisgarh. Experience has taught me to be wary of opinion polls —when it comes to assembly elections they have been wrong so often that is unwise to depend on their predictions.

Which, of course, means that the BJP could well win Chhatisgarh. Then, what happens? Does Dilip Singh Judeo, star of stage, screen and video, become the next Chief Minister?

You bet! That’s how low we’ve sunk."

When i read articles in newspapers talking about why BJP won and congress did not, i read statements like," BJP cleverly positioned itself, there was a huge level of flexibility in the BJP party, how they worked the nights, how effectively they used their laptops and all. I never come across reasons like BJP won because of good governance, won because they did good work etc. etc. OK OK........I am being too idealist but..........Watever.....I guess I rather be a cynic........politics is gonna be a dirty game....always.......sigh...!

P.S.: Hey ppl, well......a chotu mistake....no a blooper on my part. in the post above i had mentioned that I never came across statements like BJP won because of good governance or that They won because they did good work. Well I or for that matter none of u guys could have come across those sentences coz BJP wasn't the ruling party in any of the four states where the elctions were held i.e. Madhya Pradesh , Rajasthan, Chattisgarh and Delhi. Congress party was the ruling party in all the states, But it only won in Delhi. Well the error is regretted...!

Mee Mumbaikar.......Well lemme remind U that I'm an Indian first!

This disturbs me. The violence against biharis is shocking and totally uncalled for. For the uninitiated this is what happened. Shiv Sainiks of the political party Shiv Sena recently beat up the Biharis who had come to give the railway examinations. This is due to apparent frustration of the jobs in Mumbai being usurped by the so-called outsiders nee non-mumbai people. The violence first started in Assam. Again the biharis were the target. The assamese targeted them for appearing for some recruitment exam. The shiv sena followed suit then in mumbai. This is ridiculous. Their demand is something which I don't see being fulfilled. I agree Mumbai is bursting its seams. Its well tooooooooooooooooooooooooooo crowded. People from all parts of the country come here coz Mumbai provides with such kind of opportunities. U can't stop them from coming here. Goddammit this is India. Mumbai is not separate from India. One will find migration to all the metros coz metros offer job opportunities. Its just that comparatively more people come to Mumbai. Violence is just not the solution. People forget that migrants have contributed so much Mumbai's growth. Mumbai is a fabulous city, so cosmopolitan, so rich both culturally and economically. Events like this will spoil the whole party we having till now. Well......Ok, we have a problem here. But sit down and find out a solution. Discussions will definitely avail a solution. But this senseless violence is not a solution at all. Mumbai is the highest tax-paying city in India. (approximately 37% of the tax is paid by Mumbai ) Is it so difficult to exert pressure on the centre to have our demands met. It should be made clear that if Mumbai needs to grow, other cities in India also have to grow. Creation of cities is the need of the day. Ok.Ok......This can't be done in a day. It will sure take time. But these are long term solutions. But till that time, we have got to be patient. Such things cannot be done in a day.

According to me this is just an election gimmick. But don't forget that such gimmicks can create havoc in the country. Our country has just witnessed the tragedy at Gujarat. We don't want another one to happen again. Please think beyond politics, elections and power. People have been coming to mumbai since so many years. They have become an inherent part of Mumbai's social and cultural fabric. One can't just suddenly wake up one fine morning and start hating them, despising them. Is it so hard to regard everyone as Indians as against discriminating people on the basis of the language, like "U r a Maharashtrian, U r a tamilian" Bull shit! Everything has a good and bad thing attached to it. It comes like a package deal. If some migrants (not some, a large number) have contributed to the well-being of the city, there will exist a small miniscule portion of people who will cause harm too. One can't just forget the +ve work of all the people just because of certain stupid people. One cannot have the best of everything. In fact many of the so-called trouble makers are the sons of soil itself.

If one goes on to see, every major city in the world has seen migration. In fact USof A is a country of migrants. Look where it is today. Its the super power. Similarly Mumbai is numero uno as far its ranking amongst the metropolis in India is considered. A large portion of success should be attributed to the migrants who have enriched the city in every way.

Its high time certain problems are addressed in a proper, mature way to find solution and not in the stupid and insane acts like these.

The kiddie me!

I was quite a gullible kid. Anybody and everybody could tell me anything and I would believe them. Just like that, no questions, no doubts! I had my own fundas regarding certain things. Read them......

When I was a kid..........

.....I used to think that I cud sneak into the TV and go to the different places that were being shown on TV. I also believed that I cud go inside the TV and visit the actors and actresses who used to dance against the picturesque locales to the tune of the filmy numbers. But I didn't know how to do that and didn't have guts to try that out (thank god I didn't try it out, heheheheee)

.....I used to think when 2 people fell in love, they sang songs as in the movies. hheehehhe, filmy me!

.....I used to think the songs which came in from the radio was actually because few people were inside the radio busy belting out numbers for us. lol! I wonder what kind of technology would be needed to achieve such a thing. hehheheeee

.....I always used to accompany my dad to a park in my area. It almost used to be a daily affair. The park had pictures of animals and birds stuck against the walls and also painted on the iron grills. I never used to touch it or go near it coz I overheard someone that they wud come alive by my touch and bite me. So I was absolutely petrified. Heeeheheeee.....

.....I thought there existed different moons for different places. For instance a different moon for Mumbai, another one for B'lore etc. Sheesh.....How dumb!

...... This incident happened when I was in my second standard. My EVS (environmental science) teacher, Ms. Aravinder kaur once wrote on the blackboard something in Hindi or marathi. I was shocked cause according to me a teacher who teaches a particular subject had the knowledge only of that particular subject. It shocked me that my teacher knew marathi too. hhehehehehee!

.......I used to think all Gods and Goddesses of all religions lived in the sky and they wore dresses exactly like the actors and actresses in famous epic mythological serials. I used to think a parallel world existed up there of the gods and goddesses. I always used to wonder what would lord Ganesh say when he would meet Jesus..............Hahahahahhahaa!

........I never thought aeroplane would be so huge as it normally is. I was totally under the impression that aeroplane is just the size as it is seen from our rooftops in the sky. I never thought how human beings could actually squeeze into such a teeny weeny vehicle. Everything was accepted as it was. No questions. I lived in a beautiful world governed by my fantasy. In a way it was cute to be dumb.

Obviously growing up has changed everything. innocence is at its paraplegic stage now. It can't show its existence anymore but deep deep down inside I somehow acknowledge its frail existence. How I long to be a kid again, to led a carefree life! I sometimes wonder while reading the story of Pandora's box of troubles where the whole world was inhabited by children who never grew up at all. No adults at all! and how nature provided for everything needed for existence. But curiosity kills the cat, pandora opened the forbidden box which just spread problems everywhere throughout the world. How wish the world was still inhabited by children! Don't you think it would be wonderful, I definitely do think so.......

When I see kids today, I am sometimes shocked, they know everything. They are so intelligent. I wonder if there is anything called innocence left. I feel sad in a way coz they are missing out on something so beautiful.

Aisa bhi Hota hain!

I meet so many interesting people in the train. Today i couldn't help but overhear a conversation taking place between 2 gals. One was wearing a black kurti with trouser. Another one was in a salwar Kameez. Apparently they were just chit chatting since some 10-15 minutes before i started eavesdropping. (Watever, cudnt help it!) Then the conversation went like this:

Gal in black trouser (GBK): U gujju? (Gujrati)
Gal in Salwar Kameez (GSK): Yea, I am. How about u?
Gbk: (Flabbergasted)Hey, how come u working? Did they allow?
GSK: So wat, I am actually married and still continue to work.
GBK: Arrey, me also married (Got a shock of my life. She barely looked in the first yr of her college). See my sindoor (pointing to her forehead.) (Me:Very faint sindoor indded)
GSK: even i am married. (another shock, Gosh will have an heart attack now, i think i look older than her.)
GBK: U r very lucky, my Inlaws are very orthodox. They wont allow me to work. i am now working. But my inlaws dont know that. they think I am doing my MA. I did not work in the first yr. of my marriage. Sat at home and cooked, did nothing else. I got mad, u know! Doing absolutely nothing at all. Then i decided. I can't sit at home like this. I was working when i was unmarried. So why stop now!....................................................... and then my station came and i Couldn't eavesdrop furthur.
The very point of not allowing a woman to work disgust me to hell. Arrey who are the others to decide for her life. Huh! somethings just don't change. But i like the girl's spirit, rebellion spirit. Cool! One can find countless instances like this. Mumbai women rule...............

Also many a times the role of the homemaker is undermined by the family. People take her for granted. But its one of the toughest jobs in the world, managing home. That's why so many women feel stifled to be just a homemaker. Its a thankless job. Not always, But in many cases. I feel sad because of this.

Bombay is strange

Bombay is strange because....
Bombay has no bombs and is a harbour and not a bay.

Churchgate has neither church nor gate but a railway station.

There is no darkness in Andheri.
Lalbaug is neither red nor a garden.
No king ever stayed at Kings Circle.
Nor did Queen Victoria stay at Victoria Terminus.
Nor is there any princess at Princess Street.
Lower Parel is at the same level as Parel.
There are no marines or sailors at Marine Lines.
The Mahalaxmi temple is at Haji Ali not at Mahalaxmi.
There are no pigs traded at Dukar bazaar.
Teen bati is a junction of three roads and not three
lamps.
Trams terminated at Kings circle not Dadar Tram
Terminus.
Breach Candy is not a sweetmeat market.
Safed Phool has the dirtiest blackish water.
You cannot buy coal at Kolsa Street.
There are no Ironsmiths at Lohar Chawl.
There are no pot makers at Kumbhar wada.
Lokhandwala complex is not an Iron and Steel market.
Null bazaar does not sell taps.
Nor does Bheendi Bazaar sell ladies fingers.
Kalachowki does not have a black police station.
The hanging gardens are not suspended.
Mirchi Gulli does not sell chillies.
Figs do not grow in Anjir Wadi.
Sitafals do not grow in Sitafal Wadi.
Jackfruits do not grow in Fanaswadi.
......It is however true that you may get fleeced at
Chira Bazaar and robbed at Chor Bazaar.
HAVE A NICE DAY!

Sorry guys if u dont understand the lingo, I can't help it. A true-blue Mumbaiite wud always identify with such cute idiosyncrasies. Those who can understand, have fun!

P.S. Beg to differ about Bombay not having bombs. We sure have had our share this year. :(

Lost childhood :(

I was watching Say na something to anupam uncle today on sab tv. I like tht show. Anupam Kher conducts that show well and its interesting to know that the toddlers almost have an opinion for everything in this earth. Man, they sure know their mind well. I like being with kids. They have a very different way of looking at things, interesting perspectives which sometimes makes u change ur opinion about certain things. But i dont always feel happy when i see the street kids in mumbai.

Mumbai is a city of opportunities, city of dreams they say. But life in this city is not all hunky-dory. Some make it and some don't. Poverty, homelessness is like an epidemic, its there everywhere. Mumbai is a city of extremes. Extremely rich people and the poorest of the poor co-exist peacefully. Highrises and slums are present side-by-side. I see shabby, poor kids everywhere, everyday. I see poor people living in filthiest of conditions everyday. I see kids in trains begging for money, stealing and indluging in all nonsensical activities. I see kids taking drugs in an alarming regularity. That i day i saw in a news channel about how drugs are so easily available in Dharavi. A kid was actually talking about what happens after drugs are taken, how one gets a high and all. I was zapped. Nothing's done about such things. They are all over the railway staions begging and they just dont leave u and its very irritating. I feel bad also coz they are pressurized to do the same. Its very disturbing when one sees kids taking drugs, lying in one corner of the road totally dazed. i have tried to switch off myself but its not worked. I wonder how other people cope up with this. It emotionally hits u very much. Also since i love kids it saddens me more. This is not their age to do things like this. Their whole childhood is lost. No studies, No schools, No playing, nothing. Poor things.

I admire the work some NGOs are doin in mumbai. CRY, Akanksha etc. I wanna work with some NGO so that i can do my own small bit to improve things. But at the moment I have my hands full, but i would make sure that i would join a creditable NGO. I end my post with this beautiful song my Micheal Jackson, heal the world. [Very predictable haan, but who cares! ;) ]

So true!

I cudnt resist myself from posting this. In an era of rampant consumerism, fierce competitivness real things in life just are forgotten coz people are so busy with so many other things in life. Well read the fwd i got and u will get my point.

Charles Schultz Philosophy

You don't actually have to take the quiz.

Just read the following straight through, and you'll get the point.

It is trying to make an nice point.

Here's the quiz:

1. Name the five wealthiest people in the world.

2. Name the last five Heisman trophy winners.

3. Name the last five winners of the Miss America contest.

4. Name ten people who have won the Nobel or Pulitzer prize.

5. Name the last half dozen Academy Award winners for best actor/ress.

6. Name the last decade's worth of World Series winners.

How did you do?

The facts are, none of us remember the headliners of yesterday.

These are no second-rate achievers.

They are the best in their fields. But the applause dies. Awards

tarnish.Achievements are forgotten. Accolades and certificates are buried

with their owners.

Here's another quiz.

See how you do on this one:

1. List a few teachers who aided your journey through school.

2. Name three friends who have helped you through a difficult time.

3. Name five people who have taught you something worthwhile.

4. Think of a few people who have made you feel appreciated and special.

5. Think of five people you enjoy spending time with.

6. Name half a dozen heroes whose stories have inspired you

Easier?

The lesson:

The people who make a difference in your life are not the ones with

the most credentials, the most money, or the most awards.

They are the ones that care, that love and that effect you in their

own subtle way.

Masoom

I saw Masoom today for the umpteenth time. Yet the movie did not fail to move me. Throughout the movie I had tears strimming from my eyes. One of the best movies ever made. Kudos to Shekhar Kapur for making such a touching movie. Actually if u see in India amidst all the glitz and glamour and the commercial potboilers children's cinema seems to be lost, totally. A movie with so much sensitivity is very rarely made in India today. Some of the other Indian movies with kids which i absolutely love is Anjali and Parichay. (There might be more, but I havent seen any.) What i loved about this movie was there was no melodrama. Everything just seemed so natural. The family setting, lovely kids, nuances of a middle class family.......everything seemed so natural........none of the actors went over the top while acting. Subtle, beautiful acting.
I dunno if everyone reading this have seen the movie but for the uninitiated the movie deals with adultery. Naseeruddin Shah is a happy family man with his wife Shabana Azmi and his 2 kids. One day he recieves a mail wherein he comes to know that he has a son from a one-night stand he has had years ago. What follows next forms the crux of the story. The performance of Jugal Hansraj, the illegitimate child is so heart rwnehcing, ur heart goes out for him. Such a beautiful performance....u almost feel like hugging him tight and consoling him when he's in distress. The major highlight of the movie is that children are finally shown to have a mind of his own. That 3 magic words , "I Love U" can make whole of a difference to a child is so evident from the movie. The subject of adultery is dealt with a lot of sensitivity. (Gosh, how many times i have used that word, sensitivity!) After a point of time the child played by jugal hansraj takes precendence over adultery and u want everything right to happen to the child. The songs are another beauty altogether. Tujhse naraaz nahi zindagi..............wowow! I love it. People who have not watched the movie yet plzzz go and watch. trust me u wont regret it.

I have a pimple on my face

Gosh! I have got a pimple on my face and a big huge one at that. It hurts, it pains. Most importantly it looks horrible. When i wake up in the mornings i look like a zombie from some outer-planet. All bcoz of one stupid pimple. Huh! Talk of teen angst!!!!
Also whnever i go out and i meet people, their reaction would be like'
" Oh god, shobha, wats wrong with ur face?" Now, hey none of my frens are blind, they can perfectly see wat's on my face. But no!!!!! they have to hear from my mouth that it is a pimple. Its so irritating. Stupid questions. it always happens whnever I have had a haircut. People will be like, " hey had a haircut or wat?" prompting me to reply' "No its winter and i'm shedding." Duhhhhhhhhhhh!
Anyways the sad part is, its looking gross and am just hoping it will go away soon. till then i guess i will have to bear with such inanities.

This is about serious communication and its result.

Okhil Chandra Sen wrote this letter to the SahibganjDivisional Railway Office in 1909. It is on display at the Railway Museum in New Delhi. It was also reproduced under the caption "Travellers' Tales" in the Far Eastern Economic Review.

THE LETTER IS AS FOLLOWS.

I am arrive by passenger train Ahmedpur station and my belly is too much swelling with jackfruit. I am therefore went to privy. Just I doing the nuisance that guard making whistle blow for train to go off and I am running with 'lotah' in one hand
and 'dhoti' in the next when I am fall over and expose all my shocking to man and female women on plateform. I am got leaved at Ahmedpur station. This too much
bad, if passenger go to make dung that dam guard not wait train five minutes for him.
I am therefore pray your honour to make big fine on that guard for public sake. Otherwise I am making big report to papers."

Any guesses why this letter was of historic value?

?....
?.... ?.......

............

It led to the introduction of toilets on trains!!

Hahahahahahahahahaha! Hope u had a good laugh as i did.
On the hindsight i wonder wat wud have hapened if this mahashay had not written the letter. Well watever......

I'll be there for u............

F.R.I.E.N.D.S. Maaaaaaaaaaaan! i just love this sitcom like so many others. Become a part of my life now. Love joey the most. I think am in love with him. Man how can someone be so endearing and loving and so cutely foolish! Also i love phoebe.....coz she is amazingly crazyyyyyyyyyy. Wish had a fren like her.

Now after the sitcom, a movie FRIENDS is gonna come. I feel if FRIENDs is ever made in hindi or hinglish or in India, then who will play the the characters of joey, pheobe, rachel, ross, chandler and monica. OK OK no dumb remake like HELLO FRIENDS which came in Zee earlier. Just a freak thought. Am totally confused. But i know for sure that saif ali khan will be perfect for joey. So whom do u think will fit the bill! Tell me ppl........

P.S. For all those people who are feeling the idea of an Indian version of friends as hopeless ok lemme rephrase this a bit....... Imagine its an all indian cast for the sitcom FRIENDS, then whom will it be according to u????

Ethics! Wats that????????

Ethics anbody......NAaah!
Our filmstars and cricketers endorse umpteen number of products. So much so that Sachin Tendulkar is a brand in himself. (almost worth 100 crore) Use of celebrities in advertizing in India has been rampant in India. People look upto the celebrities as they lend a credibility by their association their brand. By recent events force me to think otherwise.

One of the biggest bloopers in can rememeber was the h"HOMETRADE" commercial. Sachin Tendulkar, Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan endorsed the fiasco that was home trade. When the whole scam was busted, the celebrities were obviously asked for an explanation it came as a total shock to me when they actually had answers like "I had no idea about the activities of home trade." Hello.....wat on the earth were u doin when u signed the agreements? Such are the people who are considered as role models in India. Sheeeeeeesh!

Recently Coke and Pepsi were accused of having large amounts of pesticide content in them. When the filmstars were asked about their association with products which are considered poisonous their replys ranged from a "No comments to I am under contract, I am not supposed to speak anything to What rubbish,I have been drinking Coke since so long, nothing ever has happened to me!" Ok then the people who painstakingly did all the research are fools as compared to ur knowledge! Duhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!

Now i see Aamir Khan in a new defensive Coke ad in which Coke is trying hard to steer away from the controversy. Sometimes I think public figures in India have absolutely no conscience. How can they associate themselves with products which they know are harmful. I used to hold Aamir Khan in real high esteem, but now i feel he is just one among the crowd.

Here is where i would like to mention Pulella Gopichand. Gopichand refused Pepsi's offer of Crores of rupees to endorse their brand claming that he would never endorse something which he doesn't use himself. Now that's integrity. It is really tough to resist the temptation when crores of money is offered to you. We need more Gopichands..........

Shocking!!!!!!

This is shocking. I really dunno what to say. First i hear a 17 yr old college galbeing raped by President's Abdul Kalam's guards and now the rape of a swiss diplomat's daughter. Wat the hell!!!!!! *v.v.v.v.v.v.angry* I feel Delhi is one of the most unsafest place for WOMEN in India inspite of being the capital of India. Indians are obsessed with fair skin. Poor Phirangi women who come to tour India always have to take extraa care of themselves from the preeing and staring eyes of 'WE INDIANS". One of the pointers in Lonely planet about India is that Phirangs (women) are actually seen as 'AVAILABLE' and are considered to be easy proposition. Wow! so much of our culture and all such shit! If i rememebr right Mark Waugh had once said if there was a "STARING COMPETITION" amongst various nations, India would win hands down.

Trains in Mumbai always have a cop stationed at a ladies compartment for so-called protection. What will a gal do when protectors become devils. That's wat happened to a female travelling alone in the ladies compartment and this cop attempted to molest her. But fortunately the compartment was adjacent to gents compartment and when the nest stop came she ran towards the nest compartment and then the gents bet the scum to a pulp. A few days ago when I was goin to my college again desperately trying to sleep when my attention was diverted to this group of ladies talking abt the same case which i just mentioned. This is how the conversation went.

Lady 1: u know wat happened the other day at the ladies compartment?

lady 2: Oh yeah i know! bad na! i feel bad for the gal.

lady 1: but u know wat i nowdays dont feel bad for gals. They deserve it. ( Shobha reacts:huh!) They are inviting the problem. U shud see the way they dress up nowadays. all short top and jeans u know! (Shobha again reacts Huh! *shocked*)
......... and then they began a tirade of stories of how they have seen gals wearing "Bad" outfits.

And i was like Duhhhhh! Before i cud open my moith and something to them my station came. I wanted to say that no matter how a gal is dresses in India, every woemn is equally subjected to the risk of rape. Even if one is covered from head to toe, it makes absolutely no difference.

I dont understand this dumb mentality......y are gals always blamed. Y arent the guys reprimanded for their misdoings. Y arent they told to keep their D*** in their pants. Just becoz they get aroused easily, women are advised to dress accordingly. Wat whole load of bull! Also the faulty law system in India gives the men in India ample leeway to commit such heinous acts. Its high time Justice given is soon and prompt. Its high time that delhi police pulls up its act and ensure Delhi is a safe place for women.

P.S. Well i think people commiting such heinous crimes shud be given DEATH PENALTY! Nothin else can stop this menace i feel. When everything else fails fear works! Whaddaya guys think?

Absentminded Me! (*angry*)

Well In the past few months I have been shamelessly forgetting a lot of my frens' bdays which is a very irritating thing to do. Irresponsible, Careless and i can go on and on about myself. I feel disgusted at myself. I have always loved B'days. For me Bdays are special days and I get irritated when people forget to wish me on my B'day. Imagine me doin the same thing! Yucks! I am very angry at myself.

This blog has become an integral part of my life. I love yapping around here and also eagerly await u guys' comments on my various posts. I want to wish all u guys on ur bdays too. But knowing my absent minded behaviour, I am sure I will forget all ur b'Days. Therefore i plan to write ur bday's alongside ur names on my blogroll. In this way i won't (hopefully) forget ur bdays as a momentary galnce will be enuff to remind me of the B'days. I request all u guys to plz write down ur bdays in the comments box. It will be easy for me. Thank u! Byeeeeeeee
Tit for Tat

Well Mumbai heat is killing. and to shop in such heat is a terror. I love shopping. At the end of the day it feels so good seeing the stuff u purchased. Man!!!!!! nothin can replace that feeling. (ppl who disagree and i think there will be lotsa guys here are free to express their comments) But at the same time I'm a very confused shopper, I can never decide on what to buy ultimately. So the person who accompanies me to shop is usually a harassed person coz me always goin in diff shops ultimately buying nothin or I keep on constantly asking them for opinions.

Well today i got a taste of my own pie. Well had accompanied my fren for shopping. Goodness she took 4-5 shops which were at 2-3 diff corners of the city to buy one pair of jeans. Goodness I was famished! I dint shop coz my shopping was almost over and more practical reason....I was almost broke. So somehow controlled my shopping urge. Ultimately I was so bored that don't ask! and then my fren tells me this is the least amount of time she's taken to decide on a particular outfit and I just didnt know wat to say........I was speechless! hehehheheheheheheee

So do ya guys think tht I'll change my shopping habits next time? Naaaah! ;)

All u patriotic Indians out here.......

Guys plzz do chk this out and sign the petition. If u guys are responsible Indians then this is the time to show. Also this is an opportunity to make our (Indian bloggers) felt. Also plzz spread the word around!

Musings

Well am immensely glad now tht my exams are over. Nothing can replace the relief u get the moment ur exams get over. Infact everyone in our class started clapping the moment the final bell rang. It was a collective sigh echoed by the whole class.

Now for the best part, Diwali hols. I have always loved Diwali and diwali hols. its always been special for me. Diwali.........have always loved it. Crarckers, New dreses, tht sprinkiling of ganga jal on my head while bathing, and not to forget the compulsory oil bath. I love every bit of it. Sometimes i wonder abt some senseless rituals which had absolutely made no sense to me. being the rebel tht i always been i never did something just because ppl have always been doin likewsie leaving my parents flabbergasted! But now i feel rituals associalted with festivals and all are damn cute, makes my mundane life interesting. ( And by rituals i dont mean superstitions and other stupid beliefs) Also Diwali hols have been special coz my B'day has more often than not coincided with Diwali hols. So its always been tons of shopping, sweets, crackers, etc. and hopefully this time it shudnt be any different. Will be busy this vacations. Am involved in college projects and have finally got an internship. So me will be a working gal for the first time !!!!!!!!! Yippeeeeeeeee.......so wats if its only a trainee thing..........Me excited! But there are ppl (spoilsports) who say u're excited now but later u will be bored and sick to death and wud curse ur job. Well fortunately i don't think tht will happen. Coz tht happens when u do something u don't enjoy, then work sure becomes a drudgery! Journalism has always been a passion and something have always wanted to do. Hope my views aren't too utopian. U guys must be knowing there who sure have been there and done tht! Plzzzzzzz do share ur experiences. Wud love to know tht!

Its been a pointless post. Musings all the way..........

Forward time!

This one's funny! most of u might have read this but I'm stil posting this. have a good laugh anyways!

Don't blame me if you forget your English by the time you are over with
this.

This was an essay written by a person in Bihar for his examination
When he was in class 12.
THE COW. "The cow is a mostly a white lazy animal. Also he is 4
Footed which are connected and therefore he can walk. But all 4 foots are
together. Two are forward and two are afterwards. And because he is a
female, he also give milks, [ but will do so when he is got a
child.]He is same like-God, sacred to Hindus and useful to man but mostly to
milkman. His whole body can be utilised for use. More so the milk.Milk
comes from 4 hanging taps attached to his basement. This is very
special point as other samesize animals like horse dont have any such attachment.

What can it do? Various ghee, butter, cream, curd, and dont forget the
condensed milk and so forth. Also he is useful to cobbler, watermans
and mankind generally. His front motion is slow only because he is of
lazy species. Also his other back motion [ gobar] is much useful to
trees, plants as well as for making flat cakes for cooking and eating
[looks like Pizza ] Cow i! s the only animal that extricates his feeding after
eating. But you move away when the back motion is in motion as it can spray you
from a distance when it falls from a height of 3 to 4 ft as no one
told him to sit when motion is coming. Surprise is it can do both front and
back motion at once and same time she chew with his teeth whom are
situated in the inside of the mouth. He is incessantly in the meadows in
the grass. His only attacking and defending organ is the horns,
specially so when he is got child. This is done by lowing his head whereby he
causes the weapons to be paralleled to the ground of the earth and
instantly proceed with great velocity forwards. He also got a tail also,
situated in the backyard, but not like similar animals. It has hairs on the other
end of the other side. This is done to frighten away the flies which alight
on his cohesive body. He move this end like a tail to hit the flies and
fly them. The palms of his feet! are soft to the touch. So the grasses
head is not crushed. At night time he poses by looking down on the ground
and he shouts. His eyes and nose are like his other relatives. But in
city he moves on road. We want him to move to move on but he does not move
and looks at us. Then we are moved by his look and stop horing otherwise it
can horn us with its weapons Then we move from his near. He also say
moooooo when hungry. We also cook his beef which is tasty to some
but not all will eat this cook. He is the holy Cow because he is with Lord
Krishna when he is playing with his flute standing on one feet and his other
feet is just standing at an angle... His husband also useful to we but only
farming. It is name bull and bad people swear you by its shit when you
talk something they will not believe although cow shit is also same.

We are informed that the candidate passed the exam. and is
now an IAS, is Bihar in somewhere,..[sorry somewhere in Bihar]

Sad......very sad.............hehehehehheheeeeeee

Mirror Mirror

I got this interesting forward which i felt i shud share with ya guys! Read on............
(Have you seen recent advertisement of M/s. SAINT
GOBAIN GLASSES shown in TELEVISION'S - Then you must have known about 2 Way mirror). How to determine if a mirror is 2 way or not (Not a Joke!)Not to scare you, but to make sure that you aware. Many of the hotels and textile showrooms cheat the customers this way & watch privately.
HOW TO DETECT A 2-WAY MIRROR
When we visit toilets, bathrooms, hotel rooms, changing rooms, etc., how many of you know or sure that the seemingly ordinary mirror hanging on the wall is a real mirror, or actually a 2-way mirror i.e., they can see you, but you can't see them). There have been many cases of people installing 2-way mirrors in female changing rooms or bathroom or bedrooms. It is very difficult to positively identify the surface by just looking at it. So,how do we determine with any amount of certainty what type of mirror we are looking at?

CONDUCT THIS SIMPLE TEST:
Place the tip of your fingernail against the reflective surface and if there is a GAP between your finger nail and the image of the nail, then it is a GENUINE mirror.
However, if your finger nail DIRECTLY TOUCHES the image of your nail, then

BEWARE, IT IS A 2-WAY MIRROR! (there is someone seeing you from the other side). So remember, every time you see a mirror, do the "fingernail test." It doesn't cost you anything. It is simple to do. This is a really good thing to do. The reason there is a gap on a real mirror, is
because the silver is on the back of the mirror UNDER the glass. Whereas with a two-way mirror, the silver is on the surface.
Keep it in mind!
Make sure and check every time you enter in hotel rooms. May be someone
is making a film on you.
Ladies: Share this with your friends.
Men: Share this with your sisters, wives, daughters, friends, colleagues, etc.

Sleeping damsel in a Mumbai Local!

Train journeys in mumbai..........Well they never cease to amuse me. If am not traveling with friends then am always accompanied by a book or good nice sleep. Its surprising I always get a lovely sleep during my daily train journeys. Trust me nothing like a sleep in a local train. I know all ppl familiar with the Mumbai local train scene will cringe with disgust, but I seem to get of the most fabulous sleep in the local trains. I even get dreams (wierd, Comical, amusing, sad, scary etc. etc.) I usually prefer the ever elusive seat while traveling coz I get the adjoining wall as my support to sleep well. I remember once I hadn't slept thruout the nite coz I was working for my college project. While returning from my coll I was dead sleepy. So the moment I got into the train I dosed off. I wasn't comfy at all coz there were these real plump women sitting next to me. But they were of no bother to me coz I was dead sleepy. Since I didn't get enuff place to sit their I inevitably ended up sleeping, resting my head on one of the lady's shoulder and repeated pleadings from her didn't have any effect on me coz I was too sleepy to be bothered abt her complaints. Ultimately she got so frustrated that she got up and stood thruout the whole journey (35-40 minutes) while I shamelessly slept. It was only tht my destination came that I realised my , my , my ( i dunno wat to call my stupid attitude ) I apologised profusely to her with a sheepish look on my face. Well she took it very well saying that "Cud see that u were very tired and sleepy, I can understand!" I was really touched. Thanked her and Said a good bye to her and got off at my place.

i even have had instances when during peak hrs an old lady offered me a seat saying that college students also need rest. Some times have met some really nice people during my ytrain journeys of course when am not sleeping. But the weird thing is that u sometimes become so close in the short span of abt one hour that u end up talking about many things in life and then suddenly when u get down at ur destination u r become strangers again with just a hope tht ur paths cross again but that many a times never happens. One can at the best just reminisce about it and add it to the already heavy cart of memories.............Chal ciao guys......................good day to all................

hehehehehehheeh

lol! ehehehehheehhehe! hahahahhaahahhahaah
Now if u guys wonder y i'm laughing so muhc, well lemme tell u this. If u all are frequenting paaji's blog, the u all must be knowing the music thing he did for the
british bloggers. (jag didnt mean to undermine ur work of 'art', but i really dunno wat to call it.) Its amazing! I dunno wat to call tht.but some flash art by which if one clicks the butons present there and eminems song appears and a name of a corresponding name of a blog. Well if u dont understand then plzzz do visit it. But hey first listen to this incident. He did something similar to the Indian bloggers as well. This time instead of eminem he chose something Indian aka something Hindi. The song of yeh ladka hain deewana from Kuch kuch hota hain! He placed the list of all guy bloggers in the rite with kajol singing for them. Surprisingly i find my name there. Well he thought tht i was a guy......... heehhehehehehhehehe! lol! ( apparently he had a fren of the name of urs truly in his coll.)

Anywhich ways this incident was too funny and i had a hearty laugh! But seriously guys does this blog seem like a guy's blog to u? This isn't my personal blog as such, so there's no question of all girlie girlie things.
Anyways i am posting a girlie incident which happened today to my utter embarassment. Have a hearty laugh!
My face was looking too greasy today, so decided to apply "Multani mitti" ( sort of a face pack) on my face and i dosed of to sleep in the hall itself. Suddenly somebody rang the bell. Assuming it to be some odd salesman i dint bother to get up. But when mom opened the door it was one family friend of ours coming to meet us after a along time. He had brought alongwith him another friend of his. When i hrd their voice i put my blanket over my face. Meeting after a long time they insisted on talking to me, i was like shucks, wat to do, cudnt have possibly shown my face in tht condition(they wud have run away.............worse they wuid have had nightmares all their life). i talked to them for sometime with my face buried in the blanket. Later somehow went outta the hall with a towel covering my face seriously wishing for a burkha. Everybody laughed their hearts out seeing my pitiable condition.

Sheeeeeeesh! one embarassing incident tht was..........

9/11

Well its been 2 long yrs since the WTC bombings happened. Today on the 2nd anniversary of the bombings Indian media is full with articles, columns covering various aspects of the WTC attack. Even the television media has a variety of programmes.

whatever happened at September 11 was an unfortunate incident and it brought about changes manifold in the world order. The world's never been so unipolar as it is now. America's War against terror saw to wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Both had mixed results. In Afghanistan they managed to eliminate the tyrannic Taliban rule to a great relief of the people. But the main reason or the person for which the war was waged could not be caught, infact Osama bin laden still remains absconding. Secondly Iraq was freed from the autocratic Saddam Hussein but the the weapons of mass destruction which Saddam was accused of possessing were never really found. USA's become a Big Bully.

US claims to be the global policeman, But America's war of terror is not for the whole world, its just for America. America at present is focussing all its energies into nabbing Osama and destroying the Al-Quaeda network. But Al-quaeda is just one of the major terrorist organisations. there are 12-13 terrorist organisations which are active and are carrying out their activities in the rest of the world. But terrorist organisations like Jemaah Islaamiah (responsible for bali bombings) are still active and kicking. And the response of US is thanda. Also when India is continuously being attacked by various terrosits organisation with so many different names, India is asked to show restraint. And when one World Trade center is bombed, 2 countries are bombed. Talk about hypocrisy. India could have bombed the living daylights out Pakistan especially after Indian Parliament was attacked but it was asked to maintain restraint. C'mon what the hell! I condemn the attacks but somehow the sympathy is diminished. The American attitude is sickening. It seems that American blood is more important than Indian blood."The attitude of Apna khoon, khoon; Unka khoon Paani" is astonishing and revolting. Also when i read articles like "how so&so person has still not coped up and how New york, America still reels under the after-effects of 9/11 attacks, i am like such stories should be carries out everyday in our papers. Everything seems so frivolous. I know a tragedy is a tragedy is a tragedy but somehow somewhere I just feel so cynical.

Herd Mentality Or Business Acumen

I pass through this lane everyday while going to my college. This lane has a string of hardware shops (about 6-7) lined next to each other.
In the same lane, one can find many fast food eateries, which are again situated next to each other.
Mumbai has Linking road, Fashion Street where one can get trendy clothes for real cheap prices. Here one can find shops selling same kind of stuff lined next to each other.
Hindi Film Industry is getting ready for one of its busiest weeks coz films worth Rupees 50 crores are releasing simultaneously.
Bangalore’s Avenue Road once had nearly 30 theatres situated next to each other. The road was famous for the number of theatres it had.
The lane next to my house is a busy street. One can find a string of general stores (about 5-6) lined up (u guessed it right) next to each other. In addition, in the same lane one can also spot 3-4 STD booths situated at the same place next to each other.

Well……..the point I am trying to make is how does business prosper when u have the same kind of shops situated next to each other. I have always wondered how business thrives in Linking road and Fashion Street. Apart from cheap stuff, I guess there’s more to it. Bangalore’s Avenue street now no longer has 30 theatres. Many of them have closed down, many of them have been shopping malls etc. this is not the first time that a string of hindi movies are ready for release simultaneously or back to back. Many a times they have always suffered losses coz each of the movies always tend to make a dent on other movies’ businesses. The audience obviously gets divided. But there have been instances when Aamir Khan’s Lagaan and Sunny Deol’s Gadar released on the same day, but both went on become major hits. But if they had postponed their releases such that neither clashed with each other’s release, mabbe they might have achieved even better success. Who knows! During one of the discussions in my class my professor just happened to mention that the main theory behind the presence of the ubiquitous shopping malls at so many places in the country is that with so many shops under one roof a consumer tends to buy soething or the other ultimately benefiting the shop owner in the end. She also related this example to the success of the Linking road and Fashion Street. But I think this method is not always fullproof. Whaddya guys think coz I am a bit confused…………..

Mumbai- Stop-stare-go to work

My city, My place, Mumbai. I am writing this post after reading articles, columns etc. talking about the resilience of Mumbai. Yeah, its indeed amusing that immediately an hour after the blast at gate way of India, life went on as usual. Few days after the blast Indian Express editor, Maharshtra Chief Minister SushilKumar Shinde strolls on the promenade in front of the taj hotel ( outside the hotel the bomb blasts took place) with Indian express editor in chief interviewing him. He is accompanied by only some plain clothed policemen. The stock market goes up by nearly 150 points a day after the balsts. Its amazing that there is no panic, no tension visible in mumbai. Life goes on as usual. Mumbai is known for its businesslike approach and mumbaikars are known for their spirit. I am sometimes just awe struck by the attitude of the people here. I was at the college when i hrd about the bomb blasts. There was a general buzz in the classroom and when we came to know that 2 simultaneous blasts had taken place, it really unnerved me cause it reminded me of the 1992 bomb blasts. I ventured out of the college anticipating tension but it was just life as usual. I saw frenzied activity only in the televison channels. The city was normal as if nothing had happened. There was no call for bandh too. Infact when a guy from my class told that he will not come to college the next day cause he anticpated trouble because of the bomb blasts he was laughed at. His concernes were valid but he was given this "are u mad" kind of a look.

A television channel reported rampant partying at the happening discs in Mumbai. The attendance was full. This was on the day when the twin bomb blasts took place. Now this is definitely not resilience. This is an extremely insensitive attitude. Apathy if i can say. Mabbe all this stems out from the fact not a big deal was made out of the blasts. I dunno.

But no one can say that Mumbai doesn't have an heart. when Indian express reported of a bunch of kids who became orphans due to the blasts, help poured from all corners.

Also I think that the 'chalta hain' attitude which is so characteristic to we indians helps us to over come incidents of such magnitude. It seems that an average mumbaikar has become immune to incidents like this. But one can also see this line of resilience being crossed resulting into insensitiveness.

Me back!!!!!!!!

Well this is too Narcissistic a title to have"Me back!" But what the hell, i dont care coz i am happy that i have at last got time to blog again. This is one of the longest blogging breaks i have ever taken. The previous one i took did not make any difference coz there nobody noticed it except for a few. But this time there's a difference.....Lotsa ppl noticed it and again if i may add ppl missed me;) hehehehe! Now i guess i should stop right here and do what i do best i.e. Blog! ;)

Lotsa things happened in the span of 10 days! Most prominent being "The mumbai bomb blasts" Its scary that its been happening at an alarming regularity. But at the same time Life in Mumbai goes on as ususal. he greatness of the people and the city here is that "Nothing can bog them down! I love and admire this city for its spirit and am glad that i belong to this lovely city.

There has been an ample media coverage for the blasts. Afetr watching the telecasts i was unhappy. 2 reasons:
Aaj Tak which is one of the highest watched News Channels in India came out with an absolute blooper declaring that "there have 4 bomb blasts instead of the 2. the additional one being somewhere near Marine lines and Near Mumbadevi Mandir. I initially saw Aaj tak and almost panicked. But later when i saw NDTV 24X7, I got the info that only 2 bomb blasts had happened and they also reassured us that the info is correct and there is absolutely no need to worry. I was absolutely confused. I didnt know whom to believe. then later it was confirmed that there were only 2 bomb blasts.
Now Aaj Tak being such a reputed channel, it was very irresponsible on their part to misreport like this. Thousands of people tune into Aaj Tak for news. They have all been misinformed now. Ina away the channel has been instrumental in rumour mongering. If there wouldn't have been immediate clarification by other news channels there would have been wide-spread panic. The credibility of the channel is doubted now. Aaj Tak in a quest for being "sabse tez" doesn't allot time time to verify facts. Also this is not the first instance of misreporting by Aaj Tak.

Also I was absolutle grossed out seeing the Blast footage of Aaj Tak. It was disgusting. I agree Bomb Blasts can't be a pretty sight. But with so much blood around it can be very depressing and gross. Lemme give u a example. During the WTC bombing did anyone see a drop of blood, a songle dead body? Absolutely not coz none was reported. I think that Indian news should emulate the aspect of honouring and maintaining the "Dignity of the dead". Again in the quest to be "sabse Tez" and first they have resorted to such measures. But i guess its high time they realised their responsibilities that comes as a part of being a news channel.

Another shcoking revelation but something which we all knew. If u r wondering what i am talking about click here

Anyways seeya and see forth!
(psst........waiting for lot of................comments from all ya guys!)

Raksha Bandhan

Well yesterday was raksha bandhan. I somehow feel lost on every raksha bandhan everyyear. Coz i am the only child. Always wanted to have an older brother. Well i somehow don't have any "mooh bola" brothers and very firmly I dont belive in tying rakhis just for the heck of tying them. Coz i belive in the sentiment behind tying rakhis and not the ritual tying rakhis per se.
But guess what i had a great day today! i am the member of a youth organisation. We as a part of a project visited "ASTITVA", a home for mentally challenged people and tied rakhis to the mentally challenged guys over there. Felt so nice............... It was an emotionally rewarding experience. It feels really sad when i see their condition. They inhabit in a world which is their own. Some of them were so happy seeing us, they were overjoyed when we tied rakhi to them, but i think they were more happy by the fact that we treated them with lotsa sweets and chocolates. Some of them were in real good mood that day coz their sisters and family members had visited them. One of them was dancing with joy coz his sister was getting married. One of them spoke so well with me in english that i was shocked when i heard that he was a borderline case, an euphemism for a mentally unstable person. It was an absolute humbling experince which made me thank god for the fact that i was not one among them. Will visit them often............Anyways seeya!

Objectivity!

Hello friends!
Its said that "One should not be football of other people's opinion". But is it humanly possible not to get affected? Sometimes i wonder whether one can be really be objective about ourselves. Can we be really be unaffected by other people's remarks?
Coz i can be easily swooned by a compliment and can be easily hurt coz of a stray remark!!!!!!!!!!! Well guys whaddaya think?????

Despair!

To say i was disturbed after seeing this picture would be an understatement. This award winning photograph is taken by Kevin Carter. he won a Pulitzer prize for this picture. This picture was taken during the sudan famine. this picture shows a famine stricken child crawling towards the UN food camp which was situated nearly a kilometer away. The vulture is waiting for the child to die so that it can eat it. The picture shocked the whole world. Nobody knows what happened to the child thereafter. But Kevin Carter died after 3 months due to depression.
I think Bush should be sent a big picture of this photograph. When world is facing such basic problems like lack of food, war seems such a futile option and seems so trivial. If at all, all such resources were diverted to resolving such problems.... Now that is what i call wishful thinking..............

Mr. & Mrs. Iyer
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! watta movie! watched Mr. & Mrs. Iyer for the first time and was completely bowled over by it. Now i realise watta loser i have been having watched the movie sooooooooooooooooooooooooo many days after its release. But as they say " Better late than never........ and i console myself.

This movie personifies " beauty in subtelity" such a beautiful movie but with such a powerful message but is devoid of any unnecessary drama. the movie hits you hard at appropriate places. Well for the unitiated, Mr. & Mrs. Iyer is a movie which shows communal tensions in India and how it affects the lives of 2 individulas a tamil brahmin played by konkana sen ( excellent acting) and a mulim photographer played by Rahul Bose ( cant keep my eye off him............... well now that's another story altogether.) Konkana sen is just perfect as a tamil brahmin lady. her accent was a revelation. Hard to believe that she is a bong female. They have worked very hard on costumes and the minute details of the chracter played by konkana which adds authenticity to her role. The customs, prejudices potrayed are all the same. I can say this beacuse i am a tam-bram myself. Even though i am not afflicted with any of the prejudices she is shown to have, i have seen such people in real life as icome in contact with so many "Mamis" of my community. The conservative upbringing reflects during her intercations with Rahul bose. Speaks of an amazing eye for details and characterisation. They have done their homework well.......... very well i should say! Rahul bose plays his part to perfection as amuslim photographer Jehangir chowdhary. Such subtle acting, he is amazing.

The movie has some excellent moments. The scene where Meenakshi comes to know about Raja aka jehangir to be muslim, her reaction is amazing. It really hits her as a bolt of lightening coz she is unable to stomach the fact that she has intercated with a Muslim, let him handle her child etc. This is where her conservative values are tested! But the scene where she shows exemplary courage and compromise of her values by declaring Raja as her husband when rioters barge into the bus. The most beautiful part of the movie is the relationship that meenakshi and raja share. During their last train journey when one sees subtle hints of both of them develpoing feelings for each other, one wishes the journey goes on forever..... But the end grounds you to reality. The journey of prejudices meenakshi from a conservative tam-bram to a mature woman who realises the foolishness of her beliefs is gradual and indeed beliveable.

The communal riots that are shown really potray the sorry affairs of the country. The typical scene in the bus wher literally mini-India is created is tribute to the unique diversity in our country. Bhishm Sahni and Surekha sikri play their parts as a muslim couple to perfection. Your heart goes out to them when they rioters drag them out to kill them.

An absolute briliant movie and if anyone has still not watched plzz watch it soon.

FLICK........FLICK....... Stop!
Hello ppl! well blogging after quite a few days........... Lemme share an interesting incident with you guys. Yesterday i was on my way to college in the morning. I was all sleepyand tired, me not morning person at all. I was on my way to the bus-stop when i saw a bunch of street urchins, not an uncommon sight in Mumbai at all. They all had unkempt hair, dirty clothes but a lovely smile on their faces. ( all this seems so common, but i guess this doesn't get any ironical than this! ) I wondered how can they be so happy with so much hardships!!!!!! Alongwith them there was a lady with a child in her arms. I preseme that she was the mother of few of the children loitering around over there. Suddenly a group of children huddled around the mother and then started walking casually in my direction. A few collge students too were walking beside me. Suddenly i saw a small girl of probabaly 8 years old cooly opening a compartment of the bag of a college student with the college student completely oblivious to the whole situation. The kid was so adept at her art that she maintained her cool inspite of the presence of so many people on the road. And here i was walking real fast with my eyes totally fixed on the bus stop searching for my bus. I dunno how but suddenly amidst all these chaos i just happened to glance at my right where this young girl is coolly attempting to flick something. Seeing her at work i screamed. On hearing my scream the girl looked at me with a glint in her eye ( note: no fear at all) and befor anything could be done she coolly dispersed off in the crowd. It was then i noticed that all this was happening with her mother's guidance. Then i proceeded towards the college girl and told her what happened and asked her to check her bag. She freaked cause the compartemnt which the girl was fiddling with was the place where she had kept her mobile phone. She thanked me profusely on seeing her mobile safe and sound.

OK........ so the start to my morning was not too bad but it really pained me too see these little kids indulge in theft and that too under their parent's supervision. But i guess poverty makes one do all nasty things in life. Maybe she might have needed money for her ailing brother, maybe she might have needed money for paying off the mortagage, maybe............. and the list goes on...... and thus i saw another case of "Death of innocence".

Sequel, soldiers and TN media!!!!!!!!!

Wow, i couldn't have been more happier. Nagesh kukunoor is planning to make a sequel to hyderabad blues. This is amazing. I love hyderabad blues. I love it for its simplicity and the fact that the protaganist Varun was the only film character who actually thought the way i thought. I am gonna eagerly wait for its release.

Yesterday was the 4th anniversary of Vijay divas or better known as the kargil day. i remember those days when ndtv ( the then star news team) was a hit among all the households in India coz they actually bought the war at the drawing rooms of so many Indians. I also remember Barkha dutt's reports from the front very vividly coz that was the time i decided that i want to become a journalist. I rememeber that i was in my 9th standard that time and i was absolutely fascinated by the NDTV reporters. i used to followevery minute details of the war on the then star news. the war had affected me a lot and i felt that i had to do something for the martyrs. So myself and my friend pooled in 400 bucks( That's all we could manage) and sent it the jawan's fund. Felt so nice after doing that. It was my small way of acknowledging the valuable contribution of our beloved soldiers.

In My house my parents avidly watch the news at eight at Sun TV, one of the most popular channel amongst the south indians. They also watch news at Jaya TV. Sun TV is absolutely pro-DMK and Jaya tv being absolutely Pro-AIADMK. Sometimes i am forced to see some news in tamil owing to my parents' insistence. What i have noticed is that when Jayalalithaa government comes to power, Sun TV will have news of all the happenings which will show Jayalaithaa in bad light. They will blame the government, the chief minister and everybody related to her. The same thing happens vice versa too. If karunanidhi (DMK) is in power then Sun TV will literally show him as a demi-god, as a person who never makes any mistake as a perfect person to run the government and all blah blah! and Jaya tv will continue to potray DMK govenment as the biggest mistake happening to tamil nadu politics. Sample this. During the recent event of jayalalithaa government acting tough on the striking govt employees, the supreme court asked the govt to reinstate the employees back.
report : ( jaya tv) the supreme court praised jayalaithaa for taking a tough stand against the striking employees. The supreme court "SUGGESTED" the jayalalithaa govt to admit back the dismissed employees.

(sun tv) The jayalaithaa govt suffered a major setback when the supreme court of india asked jayalaithaa to induct all the dismissed employess back to the job. The supreme court was particularly critical about jayalaithaa govt's harsh handling of the case and ablah blah!

This is the sort of vendetta politics is being played in TN. but what saddens me is that how media is being used convinient to fulfill personal venegence so effectively. Also one can remember that when jayalaithaa came back to power she had karunanidhi arrested and the way he was man handled was shown again again on Sun TV to arouse sympathy for karunanidhi and to instigate the public against jayalaithaa whereas at the same time JAYA TV maintained a nonchalant stand and acted as if nothing like that has ever happened. I am not imlying that what jayalaithaa did was right but misrepresentataion of facts by both the parties his simply not acceptable. In all this mess the guillible public is made to belive all wrong facts. Since Jaya and Sun TV almost have a monopoly between themselves and they being such dominant players in the tamil media scene they have the capacity of influencing public opinion on a large scale. If a person is used to watching a particular channel for watching news, he will seldom check other channels for updates and this becomes a habit. just as TOI is a habit in mumbai, Statesman is a habit in kolkatta etc. It is this factor that the braodcasters are using to their full advantage. Sad.................

I love classical music. Mine has always been a musically inclined family. i was initiated into the world of music at quite a young age. But the reasons why i started to learn music was quite different. I have 2 cousins of mine who sing veryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy well. therefore they used to be the centre of attraction at every function and every auspicious occasion. ( they still are ) Now i used to be cornered with everybody lavishing praises on them. Slowly jealousy started creeping and one day i made a big huge fuss for learning carnatic music. Thus i was initiated into the world of music at the age of 7. But becoz of no genuine inclination, my interest waned and i quit. now when i am 18 i dunno how but i have suddenly started taking interest in carnatic music. ( how this happened still remains a mystery to me) i strated enjoying it whenever it was played. i even started attending concerts. And to say couple of years back i used to cringe with the very mention of classical music. Now i have again started learning classical music. Amma is very happy with the development.
Today a very embarassing thing happened with me in my music class. My music sir ( god bless him, what a divine voice) was crooning a geetham ( an aspect of carnatic music) and i followed him. I was singing quite ok but suddenly my voice cracked. It was as if when a person driving his car at full speed suddenly screeches his car to a halt. I am not comparing my singing to the speed of my car but my creaking voice to the noise which comes when brakes are applied suddenly. It was so embarassing especially in front of my batchmate who sings so wonderfully. i felt like running and hiding away somewhere. There are some days when the music lessons of mine get over so soon. But in days like this when i desperately wanna run away, the time literally comes to a standstill. I hate my throat now! that reminds me that i should have a gargle now! seeya, good day/night everybody!

Hello people!!!!!!!!!!!! had an ok day today! well i was reading lots of posts today in various blogs. What i found really common was that so many of them had absolutely personal entries in them. I was really amazed as to how some people so eloquently put forth their thoughts and are so clear about themselves and their thoughts. i for that matter will struggle to put my most intimate thoughts on paper. Sometimes reading them seems like u r playing a role of peeping tom reading thru their personal diaries. But i guess blogging is all about that.
I dunno what u guys feel about this? Some people pen their thoughts under a pseudonym. Well that's really playing it safe. I guess anonymity gives u the freedom of expression. But if u ask me i dont think i will be able to pen down my " too personal" thoughts. But ya my musings and my views will be abound and i really dunno if u guys will be interested about knowing that??????????????????????????????????????

This one is really funny. Read and laugh to your heart's content!

Letter to a sardar from his Mom.
Dear Gurmeet,

I am in a well here and hoping you in the same well there. I'm writing this letter slowly, because I know you cannot read fast. We don't live where we did when you left home. Your dad read in the newspaper that most accidents happen 20 miles from home, so we moved 20 miles. I won’t be able to send the address as the last Sardar who stayed here took the house numbers with them for their new house so they wouldn’t t have to change their address. Hopefully by next week we will be able to take our earlier address Plate here, so that our address will remain same too. This place is really nice. It even has a washing machine, situated right above the commode. I m not sure it works too well. Last week I put in 3 shirts, pulled the chain and haven’t seen them since.

The weather here isn't too bad. It rained only twice last week. The first time it rained for 3 days and second time for 4 days. The coat you wanted me to send you, you! r Aunt said it would be a little too heavy to send in the mail with all the metal buttons, so we cut them off and put them in the pocket. Your father has another job. He has 500 men under him. He is cutting the grass at the cemetery. By the way I took bahu to our club's poolside. The manager is badmash. He told her that two piece swimming suit is not allowed in this club. We were confused as to which piece should we remove? Your sister had a baby this morning. I haven't found out whether it is a girl or a boy, so I don't know whether you are an Aunt or Uncle. Your uncle, Jetinder fell in the nearby well. Some men tried to pull him out, but he fought them off bravely and drowned. We cremated him and he burned for three days.

Your best friend, Balwinder, is no more. He died trying to fulfill his father’s last wishes. His father had wished to be buried in the sea after he died. And your friend died while in the process of digging a grave for his father. There isn't much! h more news this time. Nothing much has happened. Love Mom.

P.S : Beta, I was going to send you some money but by the time I realized, I had already sealed off this letter.

I got this forward and i thought that it was very thoughtful. Read it and you will know what i am talking about.

Its a good touchy message.
It does
make sense and we should take the time every day
to do what it says.
..
READ ALONE.....ESPECIALLY THE LAST PART
Around the corner I have
a friend,
In this great city
that has no end,
Yet the days go by
and weeks rush on,
And before I know
it, a year is gone.
And I never see my
old friends face,
For life is a swift
and terrible race,
He knows I like him
just as well,
As in the days when
I rang his bell.
And he rang mine if,
we were younger then,
And now we are busy,
tired men.
Tired of playing a
foolish game,
Tired of trying to
make a name.
"Tomorrow" I say! "I
will call on Jim"
"Just to show that
I'm thinking of him."
But tomorrow comes
and tomorrow goes,
And distance between
us grows and grows.
Around the corner!
yet miles away,
"Here's a telegram
sir" "Jim died today."
And that's what we
get and deserve in the
end.
Around the corner, a
vanished friend.
Remember to always say what you mean.
If you love
someone, tell them.
Don't be afraid to express yourself. Reach out and
tell someone what they mean to you. Because when
you decide that it
is the right time it might be too late.
Seize the day. Never have regrets. And most
importantly, stay
close to your friends and family, for they have
helped make you
the person that you are today.

Filmi endeavours

I had an interesting day today. For a college project, a project on the junior artistes, me along with 2 friends of mine had to go to film city, the so-called mecca for Hindi film industry (yeah i hate the term bollywood). When we entered the premises of Film city, we saw a shooting of an ad film or music video going on. A bevy of crassly dressed girls dancing some stupid steps to patao this So called hunk with an atrocious wig. (actually he comes in the zee english ads) They were shooting in the middle of the road where buses to film city always pass by. Since it had rained badly the buses always left behind a trail of slush and muck on the roads. In order to make the roads look clean for the shoot the spot boys used to pour buckets of water which used to take atleast 15-20 minutes. But the moment they would finish their task another bus used to come dirtying the road again. This went on and on for quite a long time. Somehow the director managed to finish the shot. But we didn't hover around much to see what happened next.
Film city looks amazing. For a person who is so accustomed to the concrete jungle, Film city is a refreshing reprieve. Its full of greenary and is very scenic. When we proceeded furthur we saw a set which was erected and we went there in anticipation of encountering some junior artistes and extraas at work. Turned out that the set was of Sab tv's comedy Dhaba junction featuring Jaspal bhatti. There was commotion going on here too but we did not see anything interesting so we moved on. But before moving furthur one of the attendants told us that amitabh bachchan was shooting nearby. WOW i was so happy! ( me a big BIG B fan) The very feeling of being somewhere close to AMITABH BACHCHAN was enough to transport me into cloud nine. Anyways we moved furthur ahead in search of some shooting. We one of the permament features of hindi movies, the ubiquitous High/supreme court, a ragged building which is used in almost all the hindi potboilers. When we had a closer look we saw that the front poetion of the court was missing! Instead there lay an entrance to a church, huge walls and all. Then on a closer look again we saw that it was just a make shift arrangement to convert a court in to a church. We were amused.
Then we proceeded furthur when we reached a aplace wherein there were lots of make up vans lined up. We wanted to meet the production manager of any shoot to discuss about our project details so as to avail help from them. We saw a group of commandos walking past by us. We thought that shooting of some patriotic serial must be happening close by. We managed to speak to one of them when we realised that they were real commandos. "Andar hrithik baitha hain. security for him." ( hrithik roshan's sitting inside)
We had a short chat with him and them moved on. We also saw sets of Sreedevi's maiden televison endeavour, " Hamari Bahu malini iyer", but no shooting was in process. In the mean while we saw a couple and their daughter with a forlorn look in their faces. When we asked them what happened, they said they had come to see the shootings and that they were still unsuccessful in thier attempt cause there were no outdoor shootings as such of any movie that day and nobody allowed them in where the indoor shootings were taking place. So they were disappointed.
After loitering around for some time we were guided by a person name shankar, a spot boy who directed to the shooting of a dance sequence of a sohail khan-gracy singh starrer movie. ( i can't recollect its name) We saw lots of junior artistes. Some dressed as waiters, youngsters etc. Well we could spot the typical wannabes sitting there too. We spoke to a particular junior artiste who actually conversed us in english and even had a mobile phone. he had no qualms of being a junior artiste or an extraa for that matter. He had no ambitions of being a huge tsar and was pretty contented with his job coz according to him it was easy money. (hmmmmmmmm!) But we were getting frustrated coz we had spent some 2 hrs loitering in film city and nobody was letting us in their shoots and we were just not getting enough material and case studies for our projects. We met this arrogant fellow who who was very rude with us. We had almost lost hope when he came like a god sent angel. His face looked familar. Then we came to know that he is this same fellow who acted in the fevicol ad
( i really like that ad) He introduced to the film production manager and he has given us permission to shoot. I pray god that everything happens well on monday!
anyways seeya and see forth!
