There are way too many reality shows happening on the Indian television scene, isn't it? Way to many I guess....Sony entertainment television introduced Fame Gurukul immediately after the widely watched Indian Idol ended. (Apparently Indian Idol is stated to make a comeback during October, round about the same time fame gurukul is supposed to end....not a good idea I think, viewers would be saturated with similar kind of shows...but well, that's besides the point!)
I was watching Zee TV's Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. There's another talent hunt show happening there. Interesting concept, of pitting contestants affiliated to various Gharanas headed by popular music directors from the Hindi Music fraternity. I am not a regular viewer. I just happened to catch it while surfing channels. One girl Rakhtima from the Adesh Srivastava's team won yesterday. Despite the fact that she won, she started crying. The she confessed on the show that her mom was in the nursing home because she had suffered from an Heart Attack. Poor girl, had to perform under trying circumstances. However what she said later shocked me to the core. Apparently in the last episode which was an R D Burman special, she lost the contest. Her mother could not bear to see her daughter losing and SUFFERED AN ATTACK BECAUSE OF THAT.
Holy crap! I was stunned beyond belief. Shessssssh.....poor girl, so much pressure. I just thought how important it would have been for her to win today. But the point is....I am just plain irritated. The whole thing was dramatised completely as is the Indian style. What might be traumatic to the poor girl would be increasing TRPs for the channel. Sick! In their quest to attain quick stardom, I think the participants fail to realise that the channels are just playing with their emotions. Simply because live drama would just bring in more moolah. There is a singing talent hunt happening in every television channel these days. What happens to those who don't win? They are in the spotlight only for that specific period of time. Post-show, it is struggle time for them again. I don't understand why do they have to subject themselves to such ridiculous scrutinies with a camera looming around them 24/7? Why is there a glaring need to succeed instantly? I don't know, speaks a lot about us, the youth of my generation. Speaks a lot about me too. I think we have just missed the point somewhere. Only a selective few get to the TOP. Otherwise they are just mere pawns to get more TRPs. Sad reality! *Sigh*

That's really sad on the part of reality shows and no doubt that they've flourished at a rapid rate recently with all the channels going for it to increase the TRPs and reap profits.
Poor Indian souls, the viewers who find themselves attached to the participants after the channels spend half of the time for the show displaying their full profiles, the sentiments of the ones they have in their family that how important is it to win ofr this guy/gal. Its disgusting to see such examples where what was psychologically painful for the girl turned out to be TRPs and more money for the channels.
You must realize that there are many people who are not camera shy at all. They love to be in front of the camera.
These kind of reality shows are for those kinds of people! They like to get the entire worlds attention.

Well for one I think it would be wrong to place the blame directly on to the channels.
Guess the fact is that the audience loves the voyeuristic camera. They love to see the participants crying.....frustrated.....displaying the entire gamut of emotions.
And about the participants.....I assume they know what they are getting into. I mean look at Fame Gurukul and the way the audience keeps voting out the good guys while some useless scum still hangs around for some wierd reason.
Thats reality tv....watch it or ignore it.....its gonna remain there till the masses find something else to capture their imaginations.
I agree with alex - its the viewers who are generating so much pressure on the participants of such reality shows. Its bad enough that they watch it in droves like their lives depend on it. Whats worse is that they analyze, sensationalize and demonize the people involved to the extent of forgetting that they're simply human beings.

Yes, there are a whole heap of reality shows now on Indian TV. So many singing and dancing shows, it's amazing. Was watching Kaboom the other night. Also, I like the current Sa Re Ga Ma Pa with the music directors. It's interesting.

tat is the whole point of a reality prog :p so that the common chutiya can get into the limelight….but these singing shows r all crap :| real reality progs r fear-factor, survivor and the contender :)

i enjoy watching fame gurukul a lot….but believe me they r lately making a k-serial out of it…i get real irritated then.
there is this guy arijit and becuz he dint vote for a muuhbola bhaiyah co-competitor of his….he is subjected to immensely pressurizing situations. they teach the participants to be more personal than professional just for the sake of..oh…TRPs
yaar ekta kappor is leaving her marks everywhere n influencing majority of prgms..alarming condition i tell u!

I agree with you….Even though I don't watch these programs now-a-days. But by chance I did watch one episode of "Gharana" kind of talent show in which I saw Aadesh srivastava and Ismail darbar was fighting like street guys or like our politician do fight at parliament….even they too forgot how to behave when you are a judge.

I wonder - why a a person would want to go to the house of a grieving family, not to grieve, but to conduct a interview !! Yes, a Journalist may want to do that.
It's the same thing we see on News Channels. Reporters walking in with cameras rolling into people's residences ! Wow.
